Award winning, professional grade solar powered attic fan can now continue to run after dark

The solar panel and fan provide up to 25% more power than other fans resulting in better air circulation in your attic. The advanced design provides optimal attic ventilation while drawing its power solely from the solar panel. A single fan can ventilate up to 1350 square feet of attic space and reduce the energy required to keep your home's interior cool in the summer. Running year-round can also help remove harmful moisture from your attic reducing the potential buildup of damaging mold and mildew.

30% Federal Tax Credit and many local rebates available.

Take control of your Solar Powered Attic Fan

Solar ControllerWith the addition of the optional Solar Controller with Dual Mode Technology your Solar Powered Attic Fan will now have the ability to run after sunset, or when there is inadequate light available from the sun.

When there is no sunlight available to power the fan and the Solar Controller has the optional house power connection enabled, the Solar Controller will cycle house electricity for 8 minutes every half-hour in order to power the fan. This will allow your attic temperature to continue to drop after sunset and help remove the hot, stagnant air that can buildup on those warm summer evenings.

The Solar Controller is also an upgraded electronic thermostat and humidistat compared to mechanical thermal switches. Take control of your Solar Attic Fan's thermal switch remotely with the hand-held remote control.

All this makes the Solar Controller a significant upgrade from traditional mechanical thermal switches and humidistats.

Cool your home in the summer

Solar Attic Fansolar attic fans help keep your home cooler in the summerDuring the peak summer months, your attic’s temperature can rise to 160° or more. This heat build-up can then raise the temperature inside your home and increase the amount of electricity used by air conditioners and other cooling equipment.

43% of air conditioning design load is predicated on attic heat build-up. Maintaining moderate attic temperatures can extend roof life up to 10%. Combined with 30% federal tax credit and many local utility and municipality rebates, return on investment can be up to less than a year of use.

Installing a Solar Powered Attic Fan will help remove the heat build-up in your attic and bring your attic’s temperature down closer to the ambient outside temperature.

The reduction in attic temperature will also benefit the homeowner by preserving and extending the life of the roofing and attic construction materials. Additionally, hot air in your attic can then heat the metal exterior of your HVAC ductwork and consequently heat the air passing through it, causing your air conditioner to work even harder.

Remove damaging moisture and protect your home in the winter

solar attic fans help remove moisture in the winterDuring the winter months, warm moist air from inside your home rises into the attic and collides with the colder underside of the roof. The moist air condenses and promotes mold and mildew. If you live in an area that has snow, the warmer attic air will heat the roof and melt the snow which drips to the eaves where it can refreeze as ice and form ice-dams above the eaves. These ice-dams will cause water to work back up under the shingles into the attic and down to the ceiling.

28 gallons of moisture can be absorbed in roofing materials throughout the winter months and released in the spring, frequently causing mold and mildew problems in the attic space.

Installing a Solar Powered Attic Fan will allow for better air flow and moisture control inside your attic and prevent the condensation which can lead to mold and mildew problems.

Ice DamsPrevent Ice Damming

Designed and Tested for Severe Weather - Florida Product Approval and Texas Department of Insurance Approval

Our Solar Attic Fans are designed and tested to withstand high wind and pressure in the most severe weather conditions.  In fact, our Solar Attic Fans can endure a structural load of over 150 psf (pounds per square foot) Here is a quick comparison to a typical hurricane with the estimated wind load:

Power your fan after dark

The Solar Controller without utilizing the house power option will provide the benefits of being able to monitor the attic temperature, attic humidity and attic fan operating status as well as providing the remote capability of controlling the thermal switch. Additionally, the remote of the Solar Controller allows you to monitor the Solar Attic Fan's operating status, the attic temperature and attic humidity, giving you the peace of mind it's operating as intended.

Addition of the Solar Controller with Dual Mode Technology will enable your Solar Powered Attic Fan to run after sunset, or when there is no light available from the sun.

When there is no sunlight available to power the fan, and the Solar Controller has the optional house power connection enabled, the Solar Controller will cycle house electricity for 8 minutes every half-hour in order to power the fan. This will allow your attic temperature to continue to drop after sunset and help remove the hot, stagnant air that can buildup on those warm summer evenings.

A perfect replacement for electric fans

The Solar Controller allows you to power your fan with free abundant solar power when you need it most while also giving you the option to run your fan after sunset using only a small amount of house electricity—all without the noise and operating expense of an outdated traditional electric attic fan.

Real-time status updates

The remote control readout on the Solar Controller sends a radio signal through your walls and ceiling to give you a real-time status update on fan operation to let you know at any time if your fan is running and if the power source is from the solar panel or the house electricity.

No more questioning if your fan is running! This patent pending, industry-first advancement will give you the peace-of-mind that your fan is functioning and your attic is being ventilated.

Attic Temperature and humidity display

The remote control unit will also display the current attic temperature and relative humidity. Simply press the STATUS button and the information is transmitted from the Solar Controller to your hand held remote.

An intelligent device

The Solar Controller monitors both temperature and humidity optimizing your fans operation for maximum performance in all weather conditions.

The Solar Controller intelligently limits the amount of electricity used to power the fan, so it is a perfect alternative to traditional electric powered vents.  With the built-in temperature and humidity sensors, the Solar Controller can monitor attic conditions and utilize solar power or house electricity to optimize the run-time of the fan by either removing the excessive heat or moisture.

Won't this add significant cost to my electric bill?

No!
The Solar Controller is uniquely optimized to run the least amount of time possible using the least amount of electricity possible. Since the ambient temperature is continually dropping after sunset, the fan only needs to run in short intervals, and, since it uses a DC powered motor, the amount of actual energy drain is minimal. The additional electricity required will cost less than $5 per year.

Temperature Sensor

Monitors the attic temperature and will turn on the fan when the temperature reaches 80 degrees and will turn off the fan when the temperature dips below 77 degrees. This allows the fan to only run when it is necessary to vent hot air from the attic space, extending the life of the motor. The unit comes with the temperature switch disengaged. It is recommended that the temperature switch remain disengaged to enable year-round venting.  However, you may engage the temperature switch if desired.

Humidistat

Too much humidity in the attic can cause condensation on the surfaces which can lead to the growth of mold and mildew. The built-in humidistat monitors the attic humidity and will turn on the fan if the attic air reaches 75% relative humidity and will turn it off at 65% relative humidity.

It costs less than $5 annually to run the Solar Controller

* Patent Pending

Lower your energy costs Cools Your House In The Summer
Attic temperatures can exceed 160° F in the summer months heating up air-conditioning ducting and radiating heat into your home. This forces your air conditioning to work harder. By expelling the hot attic air and pulling in cooler air from the soffit vents, your house will stay cooler.
Adjustable Solar Panel Oversized Flashing
It is important to capture as much of the available sunlight as possible. Orient the solar panel by tilting and/or swiveling the panel assembly to the position that will face the sun at it's highest point during the day. US Sunlight's oversized flashing is made of a heavy gauge steel and has been designed for leak-proof installation. The attractive black powder coating blends in with any roof color.
Ventilates up to 1,350 square feet Professional Installation Available
One attic fan will ventilate up to 1,350 square feet of attic space depending on the slope of the roof and available sunlight. Add more fans for larger attics. Available in most locations. Call 866-446-0966 for details or to arrange for a professional installer to come out and install your solar attic fan.
Removes Damaging Moisture Return on Investment
In the winter, moisture is constantly added to your home by the washing machine, showers, and dishwasher. During the winter, this moisture can migrate to the attic and condense in the cool air promoting the growth of mold and mildew. Pays for itself quickly with 30% federal tax credit, reduced energy costs and extend roof life up to 10%
Severe Weather Tested One of the Industry's Best Warranties

Withstands 150+ mph winds. Florida Product Approval and approval from Texas Department of Insurance (TDI)

5 years on motor, 20 years on solar panel, shroud and flashing
Solar Controller - Fan Operation Status Solar Controller - Humidistat
The remote will display the operation of the fan and power source operation with a simple push of the Status button on the front.

The built-in humidistat monitors attic humidity and will turn on the fan if the attic air reaches 75% relative humidity and will turn it off at 65% relative humidity.

Too much humidity in the attic can cause condensation on the surfaces which can lead to the growth of mold and mildew.

Solar Controller - Temperature Sensor Solar Controller - Run the Fan After Dark
Monitors attic temperature and will turn on the fan when the temperature reaches 80 degrees and turns off the fan when the temperature dips below 77 degrees. This allows the fan to only run when it is necessary to vent hot air from the attic space.. The Solar Controller provides the option to connect the Solar Attic Fan to house power, allowing the fan to continue operation when solar power is not available, maximizing attic ventilation run-time"

What are the cost benefits of installing a solar attic fan?

How much money you will save is greatly dependent on the price of electricity in your area, the amount of attic space in your home, the efficiency of your attic insulation, the amount of tax credit and rebates available in your area and the amount of ventilation your solar attic vent is able to provide.  In our experience, a typical installation will usually pay for itself within 1-3 years of use verses powered Attic Fans that can cost up to $35 per month to operate.

Does my roof already have ventilation?

Static vents or ridge vents will help but generally do not provide sufficient air movement to pull heat and moisture from the attic – especially during the winter or when the ambient air is stagnate. If you have electric fans in the attic, you will benefit from increased air movement in the summer but at a cost of 350 to 400 watts of power per day!

Often, electric attic fans have a thermostat that keeps them inoperable during the winter, just when you need them to expel moisture! A solar powered attic fan runs whenever there is sunlight – and, at no cost of operation.

During a re-roofing project, forego ridge vents at over $5 per foot for a Solar Attic Fan and reap better ventilation benefits.

Is a solar powered attic fan difficult to install

The Solar Powered Attic Fan is extremely easy to install. A homeowner can install one in less than an hour and a professional in less than 30 minutes. An installation video is available on our website and you can receive additional help by calling 866-446-0966. Only basic tools are required and there is no electrical wiring to connect.

We would be glad to refer you to an installer in your area if one is available. If there is not one available we would suggest you call a local handyman or roofing contractor. Your retailer does not provide the installation and does not make any arrangements with any installers, so it is best to call US Sunlight at 866-446-0966 to find out what options for installation services you might have available in your area.

Are tax credits available for installing a solar powered attic fan?

Absolutely.  The fan qualifies for up to a 30% Federal tax credit.  There may be additional energy rebates or tax credits available through your local utility company and/or municipality. You can obtain an IRS form 5695 through the internet or visit our Tax Credit Info page on our website, download the form and learn about other possible rebates that may apply.

My current electric fan is noisy and can be heard from inside the home. Is the solar attic fan noisy?

The solar powered attic fan is extremely quiet.  The solar cell provides power to a super-quiet DC motor.  There is no harmonic hum that is common with AC motors.

What is the life expectancy of the solar panel?

The Solar Powered Attic Fan has the latest state-of-the-art solar panel designed to last for more than 20 years.  While a standard solar panel can last 5 years or less, our solar panel has a 20 year prorated warranty – the longest warranty in the industry!

Are there difference in the solar powered attic fans available in the market?

Yes!  It is possible to find several brands and models with different prices and features.  But our Solar Powered Attic Fan has some of the best technology available at the best price, to assure that you have a fan that will last for years to come.

  • Our Solar Powered Attic Fan includes a commercial grade, hail resistant solar panel with a unique tilt-swivel design. By maximizing the solar panel’s orientation to the sun you can gain up to 25% more power.
  • We offer a 20 year limited warranty on the solar panel and a 5 year warranty on the motor.
  • Our motor warranty is one of the longest in the industry. In addition, our top of line motor has been designed with a simple brush replacement feature, assuring many years of worry-free performance.
  • The U.S. Sunlight Professional Series Solar Attic Fan is compatible with the Solar Controller for monitoring attic environment, fan operating status and the option to continue running the fan after dark

Is a building permit required to install the Solar Powered Attic Fan?

To our knowledge, no permit is required.

Is additional wiring required?

Additional wiring is only required when installing the included Solar Controller. The fan itself will run independently without additional wiring, but in order to enable post-sunset ventilation, wiring of the Solar Controller is required.

Can the black housing be painted to match the roof shingles?

Yes it can, but you should first prime the housing with an acrylic paint. Be sure to not apply any paint to the solar panel surface.

Can I replace my existing static or turbine vent with the solar powered attic fan?

Yes, in most cases the solar powered attic fan will directly replace existing vents making the installation even easier. In some cases, you may need to modify the existing opening, the installation documentation will take you through each step.

Will the solar powered attic fan continue to run after dark?

Yes. With the addition of the Solar Controller, The Solar Powered Attic Fan can be simultaneously connected to your house electricity and will run for 8 minutes every half hour after dark to provide additional ventilation after sunset.

Can the solar powered attic fan be used to vent garages?

Yes it can! Many of our customers are using the fan to reduce the temperate in the garage or storage shed.

For applications needing more flexibility, refer to the Multi-Purpose Ventilation Kit also sold on costco.com

Will the solar attic fan leak?

The Solar Powered Attic Fan is designed to not leak and includes an oversized, steel zinc coated roof flashing integrated into the design.  Please refer to the easy installation instructions included in each unit as well as the online video.

Will the Solar Attic Fan withstand hail or high winds?

The Solar Attic Fan has received a Florida Product Approval and approval from the Texas Department of Insurance, verifying that it will sustain winds in excess of 150 mph. Additionally, the solar panel and shroud are hail resistant with a 20 year warranty on the panel, shroud and flashing.

Will the Solar Attic Fan cause negative pressure in my attic space?

No. The Solar Attic Fan has a variable speed motor allowing the fan to simply slow down when there is insufficient intake vents. For optimal ventilation, follow the suggestions of intake vents in the installation instructions.
